Where to start? I’ve been quiet on here for a long long time, like 4 years! So, since my last ‘about us’ post a lot has changed but not in terms of allergies.
We had a little girl, who is now four and to cut a very long story short (and after delving into my baby notes as it’s all a bit of a blur) I started to notice all of the signs of food intolerance as soon as I started weaning her around 6 months. She didn’t have the symptoms my son had from birth but with formula and baby cereal came the severe eczema, sickness and occasional wheezing, not to mention disrupted sleep.
We didn’t waste any time with this little one. Appointment made with GP and a referral for the childrens hospital after explaining our history with our son. At least second time around, although upset we had some confidence and knowledge behind us. I knew it would be okay! Something I DID NOT realise with my son. At our referral appointment her skin was too bad to do skin prick testing so we headed home armed with steroids, emollients, wraps, piraton and a prescrition for neocate. Her skin cleared up and we went back for the test. She only tested positive for egg which was such a surprise and relief but I knew it was dairy causing the eczema as she had never tried egg.
Fast forward 4 years and she now has small amounts of dairy but doesn’t drink milk yet. My son is now 7 and still carries epipens and piraton for the same allergies (dairy, eggs, nuts and lentils). They are both completely eczema free at the moment and we are doing the egg ladder with both of them (which I will blog about seperately). It is going well so far although we have a lot of stops and starts due to colds and well, just life! The kids are loving the fact that it is all based around sweet treats. Tree nut trial is coming up for my son in a few months time. Fingers crossed for this one…
